WHEN
2017
This week, I've really lucky enough to be approached by a skin care company that deals primarily with problematic skin! HelloSkin (helloskinshop.co.uk) search the world for suitable, effective skin care products for people living with psoriasis, eczema, acne and dry skin. HelloSkin was created by a dedicated team of doctors, entrepreneurs and ecommerce specialists, so they really know their stuff! It's hard to know who to trust nowadays with all the advice we're given online - obviously a lot of people are out to make a quick buck, so knowing doctors are behind this company gives it a level of authenticity you don't usually get anymore!
Anyway, they're asked me to try a couple of products stocked by them, so naturally I jumped at the chance! I'm always on the look out for natural products that not only get rid of dry skin but can also be used on skin conditions such as eczema. I don't have eczema myself, but my boyfriend does, so I keep an eye out for products we can both use!
For the past couple of weeks, I've been trying the La Roche-Posay Lipikar Baume AP+ Lotion anti-irritation, anti-scratching lotion.

Here's what the La Roche-Posay website had to say about the product:

So it has a lot to live up to! First, the packaging. This comes in plain, simple packaging that's incredibly descriptive and has a "medical" feel to it (if that makes sense!) It looks and feels professional, with a snap lid for ease of use.

I've been putting this on after my morning showers on the tops of my arms and in the evening before bed, as this area is generally very dry on me and I'm prone to Keratosis Pilaris (that annoying skin condition where the skin looks all red and bumpy - so annoying!) To keep on top of it, I exfoliate very regularly and moisturise to hydrate and smooth the skin. I've yet to find a product that has totally got rid of it - I'm not sure there is a cure, except to practice a good skin care routine and look after the area. So I was excited to try this product and see if it made a difference!
The consistency of this is very thick, white and creamy with an ointment feel to it rather than a lotion - it's scentless (as far as I can tell) which you'd expect from a product like this! It's not sticky and it absorbs really quickly, too - all good so far! Immediately after, my skin felt... well, just moisturised, really. Very comfortable and hydrated - I sense this would be perfect if you accidentally gave yourself shaving rash from shaving your legs or something!
So how did it fair long term?
Well, actually... I've noticed a difference! My arms DO feel smoother, which is an amazing feat considering I've tried everything under the sun with little to no change. As it's summer and my arms will be more on show, I was desperate to find a product I could use that would lessen the redness and leave my arms lovely and smooth - and I think I've found it! Don't get me wrong, there's still some redness (can't really help that with my naturally pink undertones, boo) but overall my arms feel really smooth - I can't actually see a trace of the Keratosis Pilaris anymore! To double check, I asked two friends if they saw a difference, and they both commented on how smooth my arms looked!
RESULT!
I'm going to continue using this daily and see what happens... regardless, I'm really impressed with this product and so happy it seems to have lived up to its hype! In fact, the only downside I've found to this product - and I'm really knit-picking here - is the snap lid! It doesn't click shut very easily and I have to spend a couple of seconds each morning making sure the tube is shut... a teensy bit annoying, but nothing I can't live with!
I'm so excited to try my other products from HelloSkin, keep an eye out for them over the following weeks!
L'Oreal Hydra Genius Aloe Water Moisturiser

L'Oreal
WHEN
Sept 2017
So I saw this advertised on TV and despite having roughly 1,895 moisturisers, I reaaaally wanted to try it... so, naturally, I bought it as soon as I physically could. I'M WEAK, OK?!
I really love a good, lightweight gel formula that's highly hydrating. Despite having fairly oily/normal skin, it's quite dehydrated and I always find my skin is at its best when I use a product that is very hydrating yet lightweight, too - something that, luckily for me, is becoming easier to find nowadays with the new gel formulas on the market!
This one by L'Oreal is a lovely, attractive blue colour with a not-so-attractive, quite cheap looking pump. The bottle itself is glass, weighty and lovely, but the top part is a blue chrome which I think makes it look a bit cheap... sorry, l'Oreal!
Here's what they say about the product:
"Inspired by Asian skincare, L'Oréal Paris Laboratories introduces THE LIQUID CARE. Hydra Genius Normal to Combination Skin delivers pure moisture that penetrates quickly, deeply and continuously – without overloading the skin.
INSTANTLY REFRESHES: Hydra Genius aloe vera moisturiser immediately absorbs; the water-like texture rehydrates and reinvigorates the skin.
INSTANTLY LOCKS IN MOISTURE: The hydrating moisturiser’s formula penetrates deeply for a healthy-looking glow.
72-HR RECHARGE: Hydra Genius Normal to Combination Skin releases continuous hydration and drenches the skin with moisture for up to 72 hours. The Liquid Care: fresh as water, hydrating as a cream."

There are two types of this moisturiser - one for normal/combo skin, and one for normal/dry. I went for the normal/combo skin as I didn't want to accidentally overlog my partially oily skin!

This has Aloe Vera and Hyaluronic Acid in, both fab hydrating ingredients; Aloe Vera is known to be soothing and is rich in essential fatty acids, while Hyaluronic Acid helps to "bond" water to the skin - t can hold 1,000 times its own weight in water, and is one of my favourite, look-out-for ingredients.

The gel is VERY lightweight. It's been quite heavily scented - not good is you have to avoid perfumed products - but I personally love the scent, it's very clean and refreshing. It smooths onto the skin really nicely and sits well on top of serums. I find the product very fresh - I can imagine it would be really lovely to stick in the fridge and apply on really hot days, or if you have sunburn on your face!
The formula absorbs quickly but leaves skin feeling perfectly hydrated - I didn't feel like I needed a second coverage as I sometimes do with such lightweight gels. After using this for a couple weeks, I'm finding myself grabbing for this more and more in the mornings as it sits so beautifully under makeup and the condition of my skin is REALLY great right now - not dry, hardly oily! Plus, it's so affordable - it doesn't have any anti-aging properties in it, but if you use a decent serum like me and use this on top, you're taking care of that little problem anyway! Besides, hydrating the skin keeps it nice and plump which is anti-aging in itself!
I bought this for £6.65 (barg) from Boots - it's usually £9.99 (still a barg) but it's on offer right now, so if you want to try it I'd recommend getting to your nearest Boots pronto!
Have you tried it? What did you think?

Peachy Fox London
WHEN
Summer 2017
I was recently approached by a fab new natural skin care company - Peachy Fox London! They're a quirky little brand who believe in purity, with all natural ingredients that work for your skin. They create each product in the UK, leaving "the nasties at the door". Sounds great!
They kindly gave me the Aloe Retinol Serum and the Anti-Redness Facial Cream to have a go with. They have a website and it's also available on Amazon to purchase.

Starting off with their serum, it's a clearly, medium-thickness gel-like formula that is refreshing and ever so slightly sticky when first applied (exactly like Aloe to be fair!), but absorbs to leave skin feeling fresh and smooth fairly quickly. It sits well under makeup and gives enough hydration to last through the night, too! It smells fresh and clean and all things lovely, so if you like products with a more hydrating, gel-like texture that absorbs quickly and smells light, this is for you! I think this will help plump out the skin and get rid of darkness, so I can see it being a big hit with 99% of skin types!

The moisturiser is creamy and also light; one pump is enough for the whole face. The scent is slightly more floral and herb-like, so i find it clashes slightly with the scent of the serum, but once it's absorbed you can't smell either so it's not an issue! Each smells lovely on it's own, and this does have a cooling, moisturising sensation when applied. It's packed with lovely organic ingredients to help get rid of redness, which I have an abundance of in my skin, so I'm looking forward to using this up and seeing if there's a difference!

I think this is a really lovely brand. The pump reminds me of a clinical cream and stops working occasionally which is a bit annoying, but the logo and name is sooo cute - Peachy Fox, how adorable is that?! I love the natural, organic ingredients and I love the scents of both products, even if they do clash a bit when mixed together. I'm excited to keep trying these and see the long-term effects!
Plus, they're so damn affordable! Under £15 for either the serum or moisturiser is an absolute bargain for something containing such pure ingredients! I think this brand is PERFECT for younger people looking to take care of their skin and prevent the first signs of aging (prevention is the cure, after all!)
